Confinement stimulates trivial flight in Coccinella septempunctata (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae)

Coccinellids (ladybird beetles) are usually kept in small containers before or during flight tests. We have recorded in mature reproductive adults of Coccinella septempunctata that confinement can increase both the tendency to fly (take-oft) and the performance (duration) of trivial flight. This possibility should be taken into consideration in the interpretation of flight tests.
